Our Heritage
At Tobin Properties, we believe that the only thing more important than achieving success is owning the recipe to repeat it.
Ben Tobin was already a forward-thinking entrepreneur when, in the 1920s, he began buying underperforming properties in Detroit and turning them around, practicing what would become Tobin’s proven investment strategy of in-depth analysis backed by hands-on management style and integrity.
After the Second World War, Ben bought and restored to its former glory the world famous Hollywood Beach Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. In 1950, he and his partners acquired the New York’s Empire State Building; this acquisition was considered the greatest single real estate transaction in history.
Ben’s son, Herb, joined the company in 1962. Under Herb’s leadership, which benefited from his in-depth experience in the construction industry, real estate marketing, and hotel management, the company became a highly respected entrepreneurial real estate firm with vast experience in this field. Today Tobin’s portfolio contains over one and a half million square feet of property throughout the Southeastern US, with many more projects in the pipeline.
Herb’s son, Jason, became the third generation to join Tobin Properties in 1991. He provides new energy and innovative ideas, all within the Tobin family tradition of staying ahead of the game.
Using Ben’s forward-thinking philosophy, Tobin Properties continues to seek out real estate opportunities with “good bones” whose value is circumstantially low, and still delves into every aspect of the project to ensure consistent excellence – what Ben called “watching the store.”
Like our partners and investors, we at Tobin have found that only one thing is more reassuring than years of experience: generations of it.
